Lost Coast Photo - the photography of Ken Mierzwa

With this most recent update, I've simplified the site, done away with anything non-essential and a few things that were just old.

Although I continue to photograph a variety of subjects - landscapes, street, portraits, art nudes, every now and then some fashion, and more - for the time being I'm showing only selected sets of work here (a more diverse set of work can be found on my zenfolio page. That will change over time, as I re-evaluate old images and create new ones, and add additional galleries here. I'm choosing to step back, and then take a fresh start.

I began my visual journey as a photojournalist, first for the mainstream press and later as a writer and photographer for a music 'zine. Although I rarely seek out commercial work today, my style continues to be influenced by those early experiences. I document the world around me, whether an inside look at a counterculture or a tour of the backroads of America. My work is occasionally shown in art galleries (most recently at Gallery Provocateur in Chicago), and is sometimes published in books and magazines. Credits include Crain's Chicago Business, Time Out Magazine, Roma Magazine, Chicago Wilderness Magazine, and many more in the U.S., Canada, England, Germany, Italy, Australia, and Thailand. Most recently I'm participating in the f-eleven book series (follow the books link at the top of the page for details).

I'm currently living on the northern California Coast, at the northern end of the area known as the lost coast. I travel frequently, spending up to 20 percent of my time in the Bay Area, Chicago, and occasionally other places.
